Shayna was born in Hawai’i and grew up snorkeling and freediving, so it's no surprise that she's a marine conservation maniac. She originally obtained her SCUBA certification to complete fisheries management research in Turks and Caicos, while pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Grinnell College.
While working as a scuba instructor, dive guide, and conservation co-coordinator at Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo, Shayna took part in the Underwater Birthright Trip to Israel where she was exposed to Scubi Jew and Water Torah. As the Scubi Jew program at Eckerd College grew, it was decided that we needed to hire a program coordinator to oversea its expansion, and Shayna was the perfect person to do it. She relocated to Tampa to expand Tikkun HaYam/Scubi Jew and take it to new depths. She is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, an SSI Century 100 Instructor, and #theseahugger.
If you would like to get scuba certified or start a Tikkun HaYam/Scubi Jew chapter in your community or on your campus, drop her a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
