Scuba Diving Summer Camp
Tikkun HaYam: Repair the Seas is a week-long summer camp sponsored by Hillels of the Florida Suncoast held on the Eckerd College campus. Participants in this camp will receive an Open Water Scuba Certification from SSI (Scuba Schools International) as well as learn the Jewish tenets of Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World), Tzar Ba’alei Chayim (Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Bal Tashchit (Preservation of Natural Resources) and Torah teachings about the Sea. Campers will also gain exposure to a wide variety of marine conservation organizations and efforts around the world.
This camp will take you from the swimming pool on campus to the clear waters of Blue Grotto Natural Springs. Students will be taught by certified scuba instructors from the Gulfport Dive Center and will work with the Hillels of the Florida Suncoast Executive Director and Campus Rabbi. Evenings will be spent participating in team activities.
Campers must be able to demonstrate the minimum requirements for swimming proficiency* to attend, and be excited about the underwater world!
*The minimum requirements to demonstrate swimming proficiency are:
200 yard swim any style no time limit, and a 10 minute float.

There is one scuba camp session available.
Session I: June 17-22 Overnight Residential Camp (open to rising 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Graders; limited to 16 campers).

Participant Agreement – DOWNLOAD HERE, complete. Please mail the waiver to Hillels of the Florida Suncoast Scuba Camp 13101 USF Sycamore Drive, Tampa, FL 33620-3122. Your registration will not be complete until the waiver is received by Hillel.
Your application will not be complete until we are in receipt of items 1 and 2.

Tuition for Summer Scuba Camp is $1,000 per student. The tuition includes participation in all scuba diving instruction and camp activities, use of college recreational facilities, meals, lodging, snacks and camp t-shirt.
Room & Board
Accommodations During the Week: Participants will live on the Eckerd College campus in St. Petersburg on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Both camps include one (1) overnight stay at Blue Grotto Natural Springs for dive certification.
Few colleges have a more attractive setting than Eckerd College. The 188-acre waterfront campus provides a magnificent atmosphere and safe environment. Eckerd College is located in St. Petersburg, just off I-275 exit 17. Directions to campus are available here.
Campers are supervised in the late afternoon, evenings and overnight by well-trained Eckerd College students who are eager to share their enthusiasm for scuba diving and the underwater world.
Students will live in air-conditioned Eckerd College student residence halls. Counselors will be present in each residence hall.
Campers will eat in the main cafeteria located just steps from the residence halls. Nutritious, youth-friendly food is served on a daily basis in the summer. We can accommodate allergies, gluten free, vegetarian and a variety of other special diets. On days when campers are off-campus for open water dives, box lunches and snacks will be provided.

The Tikkun HaYam Scuba Camp is exclusively under the auspices of the Hillels of the Florida Suncoast and is their sole responsibility although located on the Eckerd College campus.
No refund will be issued for the following:
If the participant fails to meet the minimum requirements to demonstrate swimming proficiency
If a participant fails to show-up for camp
If a participant is dismissed from the camp by Suncoast Hillels Staff
Registrations that are cancelled prior to the no-refund period, no sows and dismissals from camp will be assessed a $50 administrative fee.
