Student Leadership

USF HILLEL STUDENT BOARD FOR 2011-2012

Erica Freedland, President

My name is Erica Freedland and I am the President of Hillel at the University of South Florida.  I am originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and hope to pursue a career in criminal law. Hillel is a great place to make Jewish friends and to go to for social programs or religious services.  I have a passion for community service and helping others which led me to my two previous organizations: HOPE Club and Helping Hands. This year you’ll see a wide variety of programs take place at Hillel that make students feel welcome and take pride in the fact that they are Jewish. Hillel is a place where students go for Shabbat and Bagel Brunch, to socialize, or just a quiet place to get homework done.  I look forward to seeing Hillel grow at USF.

Sara Capsuto, Executive Vice President

My name is Sara Capsuto and I am the Executive Vice President of Hillel at the University of South Florida. I am a junior majoring in Biomedical Sciences and one day hope to become a doctor. Being Jewish has always been a huge part of who I am. I was the vice president, and then president, of my USY chapter in high school. I also held the vice president position in my high school’s National Honor Society chapter. I have always been big on community service and love to help out whenever I can. I hope to make Hillel a place where people feel at home and free to come by and say hi in their spare time.

Sara Steiner, Vice President Social Programming

Hi! My name is Sara Steiner and I am the Vice President of Social Programming at the University of South Florida Hillel. I am a junior majoring in Biology, and I hope to become a Pediatric Geneticist specializing in Autism Research. I spent many years attending both Camp Ramah Darom and Camp Coleman, and was also involved with USY in high school. I currently volunteer in a classroom at the Hillel Academy of Tampa Jewish day school and I love working with people. Being Jewish is an important part of my life, and I am very excited to be involved in the programs happening at Hillel this year!

Adam Arroyo, Vice President Finance and Community Outreach

My name is Adam Arroyo. I am the Vice President of Finance for USF Hillel this year. I am an accounting major, but without the boring accountant personality. I am committed to having a fun year with lots of great activities. Let’s learn, grow, and share in simha. Go Bulls!

Morgan Howell, Vice President Marketing
Hi, my name is Morgan Howell and I am the Vice President of Marketing. I’m a sophomore and I have always had a passion for volunteering and helping others. I am honored to be a part of the Hillel board and consider this organization as family. Hillel is that place for any student on campus; we try to make sure of that. I’m very excited for all of the events we have planned as we grow and expand to more and more students.

Alan Abelson, Multicultural Community Chair

Shalom! I’m Alan, and the Multicultural Community Chair of Hillel’s Student Board. My major is Creative Writing, probably because of my fascination with stories of every kind. My extracurricular activities involve reading, writing (obviously), and Aikido. I can be a shy person, but when I first arrived at college, Hillel gave me a place I could proudly call my own. I am pleased to be a member of USF Hillel’s Student Board, and thrilled for this year’s upcoming events.
